Artificial intelligence has the potential to support clinical decision-making, improve access to relevant information, and strengthen healthcare delivery. However, introducing AI-supported tools into clinical settings requires more than technical capability.
This working paper explores the organisational, clinical, ethical, and data-related conditions that influence readiness for responsible AI adoption. It considers how healthcare organisations can evaluate governance arrangements, data quality, clinical safety, transparency, workforce preparedness, and patient involvement before implementing AI-enabled decision-support systems.
The paper also proposes an initial readiness framework that can support discussion, evaluation, and future research across healthcare organisations and multidisciplinary teams.
